Family Martial Arts - is a phrase we use to describe what type of school we are, we teach martial arts to children, adults and families, the classes are mixed, children and adults training together.  There are many other schools/clubs that use similar phrases to describe what kind of school they are but they are not all the same.

Please don’t mistake us for another "Family Martial Art" school that you have either been to or heard of. The martial art we teach is called Soo Bahk Do. – please see our locations page to see all official Soo Bahk Do Schools in the UK.

Soo Bahk Do™ is the name of the martial art founded and taught by Hwang Kee, his successor HC Hwang.

Hwang Kee Created the Moo Duk Kwan™ school of martial arts on 9th November 1945. He originally called his art Tang Soo Do, but later changed this to Soo Bahk Do in recognition of the ancient Korean fighting style of Subak.

Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan is a combination of several fighting principles, including Korean Soo Bahk Ki, northern and southern Chinese styles, and Japanese Okinawan martial arts, with the moral guidelines and philosophy of Tao, Lao Tzu and Confucius.

So, Soo Bahk Do™ (Tang Soo Do) is a Korean open hand (karate) style martial art.

Moo Duk Kwan™ is the organisation that certifies our instructors, controls the syllabus and maintains the integrity of our art.

In the UK, Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan is controlled by the UKSBD™ Federation.

 

With so many different schools of ‘Tang Soo Do’ available, you can be assured that by joining Soo Bahk Do you will become a member of the original Art as created by Grand Master Hwang Kee.  This is not a copy.  All grades are officially recognised by the

worldwide Soo Bahk Do Federation.
